Methodology

How we collect specifications, keep configurations distinct, and explain the limits of published evidence.

Updated

Start with the configuration

We identify a device by its manufacturer, model and exact part number where one exists. A shared product name does not establish that the processor, graphics, memory or screen is the same. Model and retailer references are labeled when they are not fixed manufacturer part numbers.

Color variants may share a page when the accepted configuration evidence supports grouping them. Unknown values do not establish that two products are identical. Where a color selector lists different part numbers, check the selected part before following a supplier link.

Sources and catalog scope

The official product listing is our primary specification source. Manuals, technical pages and matched retailer listings can add detail when their scope is clear. We retain source links and observation dates so a fact can be checked against its evidence. A retailer listing or a search result alone does not establish a different configuration's specifications.

The catalog focuses on complete systems marketed to US buyers under our source and eligibility rules. Coverage is not exhaustive. Stock changes alone do not prove that a model has been discontinued, and an older observation is not a promise of current stock.

Missing data and configurable systems

Unpublished means we do not have a verified value for that field. It does not mean zero, not included or unsupported. Not applicable is used for a field that does not apply to the device, such as an integrated screen on a screenless mini PC. Missing specifications do not, by themselves, exclude an otherwise identifiable and eligible product.

A configurable page distinguishes an advertised base from documented choices and capability limits. An option or maximum capacity is not an installed component. When the source does not establish a selected base, that value stays Unpublished. The supplier's current configurator determines the final orderable combination.

Comparisons and units

Side-by-side comparisons use the published configuration values. Sorting a field orders that field; it does not establish an overall winner or a measured performance ranking. Missing values are kept separate from known values, and filters can exclude devices whose relevant specification is unknown.

Storage follows manufacturer decimal units: 1,000 GB is 1 TB. Configured power or TDP is shown only when supported for the device; charger wattage and generic chip limits do not substitute for it. Similar component names do not prove the same cooling, performance or battery life.

Benchmarks and third-party reviews

Published measurements, written reviews and videos are supplementary evidence. We link to the source and show the tested setup and settings where available. A matched result depends on the relevant verified hardware and test conditions; a result labeled Other configuration is context from a different setup, not a measurement of the selected device.

A model review can help explain a chassis or product family without establishing exact performance for every configuration. Reviewer comments and original reviewer scores remain attributed to their source. A linked video does not add a separate laboratory result merely because it discusses the same product.

Check the benchmark version, power mode and workload before comparing numbers. Firmware, drivers, cooling and test conditions can change results. Missing test coverage is not evidence of poor performance. Prebuilts does not claim to have physically tested a device when it is presenting someone else's published work.

Photos and supplier links

Photos can describe a model or a specific offer. A model photo may show an illustration, optional components or another finish, so the picture does not establish the included hardware. A missing photo does not change the accepted specifications.

Supplier links are checked separately from hardware information. Some open an exact configuration; others open a model page where you must choose the matching options. Confirm the part number, included components and final terms at the supplier. Business or government support remains unverified unless the relevant evidence establishes it.

Updates and corrections

A failed refresh does not erase the last accepted specifications, and age alone does not invalidate an accepted fact. Known disagreements and changes to accepted hardware are reviewed. Verified corrections are preserved when sources are collected again; a new source omitting a fact does not by itself erase a previously verified value.

Source observation dates describe when evidence was checked, not a continuous stock check or a hands-on test date. The data-release link in the footer identifies the published catalog snapshot. If you find an error, send the exact product and source so we can investigate.
